Kenya meets FAA requirements

Kenya has met FAA requirements

This means that the FAA has cleared commercial airlines for flights to the United States, according to Washington. The FAA reported that Kenya has met the international safety standards and has been granted a Category 1 rating from their international Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) program. But it might not mean that the flights will start rolling out immediately.

Even though they have this rating, all it means is that if they are able to obtain FAA and DOT authority as well, they can begin business with the United States and carry the code of the US. They also have to have their ICAO(International Civil Aviation Organization) tested as well, so its much too early to determine if flights for Kenya can be booked anytime soon. Or from Kenya for that matter.

Kenya has always been a rough topic to bring up in terms of traveling. There are notable health issues when Kenya is mentioned, specifically HIV/AIDS which is still running rampant in their untreated population. However, if they can open up travel to the US, it should make it easier for them to receive treatment supplies, if that is their priority. However, this is purely speculation.

To quote the FAA release of this information:

In order to maintain a Category 1 rating, a country must adhere to the safety standards of ICAO, the United Nations’ technical agency for aviation that establishes international standards and recommended practices for aircraft operations and maintenance.

So if they can follow these guidelines, there shouldn't really be any issues for flights to and from Kenya, its just a matter on if they can make it happen. We'll just have to wait and see, but this is nonetheless a great step forward for them.
